The Library

The Library is centrally located on the ground floor of the school, and is a well-resourced area, widely used by pupils and staff.

With a book resource of approximately 7,000 titles in fiction and non-fiction; small careers section; GCSE revision guides; newspapers; magazines; and chromebooks offering Internet access; the Library provides good, up-to-date information for pupils wishing to pursue independent research or read for pleasure.

All pupils are automatically members of the library on joining the school, and almost all of the books are available for loan. The library is open throughout the school day and all pupils can come in at any time during Break and Lunch. After school the library is available as a Study Room until 4pm (Mon - Thurs) for Year 10 and Year 11 pupils.

Throughout the year the Library celebrates book-related events such as 'National Poetry Day, Non-Fiction November and World Book Day, with quizzes, competitions and special events. There are lots of opportunities for pupils to get involved with holiday reading challenges; book clubs; book award shadowing groups; and by applying to be a pupil librarian.

Riveting Reads

Below you will find a few suggestions of good books for you to read. There is a list for each year group, but this is just intended as a guide. There is nothing wrong with a Year 7 pupil reading a book from the Year 8 list or vice versa. We all have very different interests and what appeals to one person, may not appeal to you. Remember, if you are not enjoying a book after a few chapters, just try a different one and it won’t be long before you find a book that you don’t want to put down.  There are so many brilliant books, it is hard to limit my suggestions to just a few, so I will keep adding to the lists and welcome your suggestions, too. If your favourite book is not on the lists, let me know…

Happy Reading!

Having a Clear Out?

If you are sorting out at home and have any books that you no longer need, please remember that they could be of use to us in the Library.

We can use donations of books in several ways:

  • For library stock if we don't already have copies of the book.
  • As spares, as library books damage quickly after they have been loaned several times.
  • As prizes for competitions.
  • As sale stock to raise funds for future purchases for the library.

So, if you have any books that are in a good condition and are clogging up your shelves, please drop them off at reception and we will put them to good use. If we really can't use them for any reason, then we will donate them to charity.

 Accelerated Reader

To encourage reading for development alongside reading for pleasure, the school subscribe to Accelerated Reader for all Key Stage 3 pupils.

Competition Success

Congratulations to two year 10 pupils who created a brilliant book trailer for Lock the Doors by Vincent Ralph, which was picked as the runner-up in the 10 for 10 Challenge competition organised by Creative Learning Services throughout Leicestershire. Take a look at the trailer below and if you like the look of it, borrow the book from the Library.
